I recently had to take one of my cameras over to Canon’s service center here in Calgary. I have read about horror stories regarding Canon service centers in other cities but have never heard anything bad about the service center here in town.

The problem with my Canon SD700is was softness in the upper right of the image. Over time this softness got so bad that it began to look like a dirty fingerprint on the lens. Upon closer inspection I noticed that there was something inside the lens which looked like calcium build up of some sort but I am not sure. Since this camera was only about 5 months old, I took it in for warranty repair. I always look for reasons to buy new gadgets and toys so bringing in something to fix is almost unheard of ;)

I dropped the camera off on a Tuesday and was given the usual “one to two weeks” line that most places give when pressed for an ETA. Being one of the popular lines of consumer cameras, I would expect they have tons of parts for the SD700 so I expected the camera to be repaired pretty quickly. When the paperwork was completed, I was told that I didn’t even need to make the drive back up to the service center to pick up my camera as they offer complimentary courier service to send the camera back! How awesome is that? A few days later, I had a package waiting for me back at the office. The camera was jus tlike it was when I first took it out of the box. Having the camera back so soon was perfect because I did not want to lug around my SLR for my upcoming trip to San Francisco. I may still bring the SLR, but for those nights where I don’t want to stand out like tourists normally do, I can use the SD700.

I decided to write about this because it is becoming more rare nowadays to experience excellent customer service and wanted to show my appreciation for a job well done. Unfortunately, I have also experienced extremely poor customer service, like when I bought my couch but I’ll save that for another blog post.

Canon Canada Service Center In Calgary, Two Thumbs Up!
