When Google made changes to the ad formats recently, one thing that dissapeared was the “advertise on this site” link at the bottom of the ad units. This link made it easier for advertisers to place site targetted ads on your website or blog. Now that the link is gone off the ad unit, these advertisers would have to manually add your site in a site targetted campaign.

One solution to this is to have a link in your advertiser information page, or have a link in your footer that will lead potential advertisers to your Google Onsite Advertiser Sign-up page. Here is how you can create that link:

<a href=”https://adwords.google.com/select/OnsiteSignupLandingPage?client=[PUBLISHERID]&referringUrl=[WEBSITEURL]“>Advertise on this site</a>

  1. Repace [PUBLISHERID] with your Google AdSense Publisher ID
  2. You can find your publisher ID by logging into your AdSense account, visiting your My Account tab, and scrolling down to the Property info section. Your publisher ID number is listed next to AdSense for content. Please be sure to copy the entire number, including the ca-pub-.
  3. Replace [WEBSITEURL] with the website that this link is on, (ex. http://www.website.com)
  4. Add the code to your advertising info page, or your footer, etc

Your link should look something similar to this:

<a href=”https://adwords.google.com/select/OnsiteSignupLandingPage?client=ca-pub-1234567890123456&referringUrl=http://www.google.com/”>Advertise on this site</a>

I think the new Google ad units look a bit cleaner without the link and its great to be able to have the Onsite Advertiser page accessible away from the ad unit page. I recommend adding this link into your advertising information page as one of the ways to advertise. I would change the anchor text so its a bit more clear that it is for advertising via Google.
