Its Daylight Saving Time Again!
ramblings March 10th, 2007Its that time of year where everyone complains they are losing an hour of sleep, yep thats right time to set the clocks forward an hour. Traditionally, this was done on the first sunday in April, but in 2005 George Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. So, for 2007 and 2008 Daylight Saving will begin three weeks earlier and end one week later. After this, the energy saving impact of the change will be discussed by Congress and we’ll either stick with the new dates, or revert back to the old schedule. Its interesting that the Bush Administration is bothering with all this because a study has shown that Daylight Saving Time doesn’t reduce energy use at all.
So anyways… beginning this year, Daylight Saving Time begins on the second sunday of March so set your clocks forward before you goto bed tonight :) If everything goes well, you’ll wake up the next morning and nothing will feel different. Your computer will hopefully still function, and computer networks around the world will probably get through this just like they did during the y2k hoopla. Many “experts” think that 3/11 will be a mini-y2k. Its the Daylightageddon! [cue dramatic music]
Oh, and while you’re changing the time on all your clocks around the house, change the batteries on your smoke detector. Its good practice to change the batteries once a year.
