Happy 10th… err, 9th Birthday Google!
internet September 27th, 2007
Depending on who you talk to, Google is turning 9 or 10 years old today. Since Google is proudly displaying a 9th birthday message on its homepage doodle, I think its safe to say Google is turning 9.
Up until 2005, Google had celebrated its birthday on September 7th. Since then however, it has celebrated on the 27th. I guess it does get confusing when you start digging into the details of when a company’s “birth” date truly is. Is it when it becomes incorporated? When work first begins to create it? When the domain name is registered? It looks like for Google, it is when it was first incorporated.
The following is found in Google’s Help Center:
The exact date when we celebrate our birthday has moved around over the years, depending on when people feel like having cake.
In any case, Happy 9th birthday Google! Here’s hoping they continue to grow, and send more traffic my way so I can make more money on my websites :)
