Google Maps Hollywood Style Zoom!
internet March 12th, 2007In Hollywood, there is no limitation to zoom levels. Software can always continually zoom into video and photos and with a magical “enhancement” will result in a super zoomed in photo with no apparent loss of detail.
Well, now heres a trick where you can zoom past the maximum zoom level on Google Maps. Heres how you do it. First you need to find a location you want to test the super zoom on. I chose the Googleplex to see what I could discover on their campus (do a search for “Google Headquarters”). Switch to satelite view, and zoom in as far as you can. If you look below the green arrow (if you followed my example) in between the two buildings you’ll notice two pools. Now, with the maximum zoom offered you can’t really see much so let’s start the hollywood style zoom :)
At Maximum Zoom

Click on the “Link to this page” link at the top right of your screen. Now, with all the details in the URL, all you need to do to access the super zoom imagery is to look for the z= value in the URL. Increase this value until you reach the new super zoom max. For the Googleplex, z=22 is the highest I’ve been able to use. With this new zoom you’ll see a lot more detail:

Now enjoy! and I apologize to managers everywhere for reducing productivity! :)
