Eight Days - A New Record?
wordpress March 3rd, 2007WordPress has been known to release new versions of their blogging software quite often, but I think this is a new record! Its been a whopping 8 days since the release of WordPress 2.1.1. However, there are no new features in this latest version. In fact there are no bug fixes either! Before you ask, no they have not gone crazy and released an update that does nothing. I’ll let them explain:
If you downloaded WordPress 2.1.1 within the past 3-4 days, your files may include a security exploit that was added by a cracker, and you should upgrade all of your files to 2.1.2 immediately.
So, basically the WordPress 2.1.1 files on their download server was compromised by someone that broke into their systems. In order to protect everyone, as there are certainly “dangerous” copies of 2.1.1 floating around the web, they have declared 2.1.1 dangerous and released a new WordPress version 2.1.2. You can read more details about the security incident over at the Official WordPress Blog.
