Those of you who are familiar with WordPress will know that you can extend the functionality by ways of plugins and themes. I had previously been using Misty Look by Sadish Bala.

When I first downloaded the misty look theme, I had no idea it was the second most popular theme on the WordPress website with 33,221 downloads! This was one of the reasons I wanted to switch to a new theme. I wanted to change up my blog so it doesn’t look like every other cookie cutter blog.

My hunt for a new theme did not go well, I simply couldn’t find any theme where I liked how everything was laid out. The solution to this was to find the theme that was close as possible, then do some massive changes. The theme I ended up with was one called GlossyBlue. I did not like the original colors, billed as “web 2.0″ by the author of the theme so I changed them to the darker, less pastel like color scheme you see now. My design skills are pretty weak, so my choice of fonts, and colors may not be the best but I like them right now. I’ll continue to tweak the theme over the next few days or until I’m 100% satisfied.

If you are just setting up a brand new WordPress blog right now, I strongly recommend not using the default templates. Head over to the theme viewer to find a theme you like. Try to create an identity for your blog, and if you’re going to go with a very popular theme like I did at first then be sure to at least change up the header images to give it a bit of a unique appearance.
