Beyond.ca Experiences The Digg Effect
internet March 12th, 2007So a thread on my car forums hit the Digg homepage this morning at 5AM and it was on there pretty much all day. Its now only listed on the Top 10 and on the front page of the World & Business section.
The thread in question is about one of our members who was involved in a hit-and-run accident. He originally posted for help in looking for the vehicle that sped off away from the scene. Meanwhile, hours later another member posted pictures of a car running away from a hit-and-run scene that he had just witnessed. Eagle eyed forum members noticed the two threads and began cross-posting the pictures and from there, the stage was set and the Digg effect hit the next morning. There have been some hilarious conspiracy theories posted by Diggers claiming this whole thing was a setup, but I assure you it was not.
The last 12 hours have been a great learning experience, but its not over yet. As of this post, we’re at about 2,300 Diggs and climbing. I’ll have the co-founder of beyond, who also handles the IT side of running the site do a guest blog post on how the forums handled the Digg Effect for a more technical look at the Digg Effect. I will also post a followup from a business perspective since this is what we’re here for.
